For those of you who couldn’t make the meet and greet, let’s give you a rundown of what happened. We had a thrilling game of Kahoot!, which tested our regular capabilities in addition to our Computer Science potential. Things got competitive and the quiz surprised us with a few trick questions however the winner received a box of Celebrations, which was met with jealousy from the losers. We then went on to test our physicality and teamwork by having a cup stacking competitors, this was a problem as the cups were not the legitimate cup stacking ones but likely from Poundland. Nonetheless, the teams approached the challenge with enthusiasm and we all had a good laugh.
We are the 1st women based Computer Science society at the University of Sheffield open to all. We hope to encourage and inspire people to take an interest in Computer Science regardless of background, race, culture and in our case, gender. Computer Science is really a very intimidating industry – every now and then we feel like we don’t know what’s going on, or we don’t have a crucial voice among all of the males customarily 80 90% of the course/industry but through our society, we are hoping we can provide an outlet where that you could ask for help or even simply to socialise and relate to others in your place.
