How people decide what to trust on social media and online

As we’ve noted in earlier Media Insight Project research, this means people in social media are no longer consuming news in “news classes. ” News instead is only one type of content material it’s part of a bigger social flow, and it is being encountered as a part of connecting with people more generally. 1 The news has also been “atomized” in social media, which means that individuals are encountering one story from a news source mixed in with content from many other assets, quite unlike watching a newscast or reading a magazine or newspaper, where all the content material comes from the same source.
