“What began as gang graffiti on the edges of train cars has converted into an unique urban language of inventive expression” is an incredibly wrong and misinformed statement. Gang graffiti has no reason to exist on trains– trains move and gang territories do not. Graffiti on trains, historically, has its roots in Hip Hop culture. It is one in the normal four points of Hip Hop: DJing, Rapping, Breakdancing, and Graffiti art. Gang graffiti, traditionally, has been applied to buildings in bound neighbourhoods to establish a gang’s territory, and makes up less than 10% of all graffiti in most stories.
